Goals:
Physical Education is the only subject which, by the very nature of its content, has the potential to affect how a person will feel every moment of every day for the rest of his or her life. In Physical Education, students gain knowledge and appreciation of physical fitness as well as knowledge of lifetime leisure activities. This knowledge promotes a positive self-image and wellness.
Rules and Regulations:
All students, with the exception of those excused for reasons of health, must participate in and successfully pass requirements of the physical education program according to state laws.
If a student is excused from the physical education program, a written note from her physician must be on file in the nurse's office indicating a time period.
All unexcused missed classes must be made up eitherduring a study hall of after school. A note from a parent does not excuse a student from P.E. class.
A Mercy uniform shirt and shorts must be worn to all classes. Students must also have white socks and sneakers. Sweatshirts and sweatpants are also acceptable. The activity fee covers the cost of the gym uniform.
Personal Belongings:
Baskets and locks are provided. P.E. clothes should be left in the students' locked baskets. During classes, locks should be used to secure all personal items.
Grading:
Grades are determined by participation, attendance, preparation and quizzes. Five points will be deducted for any missing P.E. clothing.
